JAZBAH | JAZZ CLUB
Collage Mixed Media - Acrylic over ink drawing on panel | 100x100cm | White wooden float-frame
Jazz... Jazz music through the decades. The players still look the same, only the venues have changed. Widely popular Jazz music and its culture. Most major cities are home to a Jazz venue or two. In my work, I've tried to capture the atmosphere from a basement Jazz club from the 60s or 70s, low lighting, musicians huddled in the corner, small tables and stalls accommodating the audience, smokey rooms, and some hard liquor being served. Of course, much has changed today, but the music remains the same and the audience refrains from smoking within the club.
The originals vary in size and are mixed-media. Painted over hand-illustrated ink line on board, paper or panel, sometimes on aluminium metal.
